Pilgrimage | Santarém – Fátima

Testimonies from pilgrims who took part in the Pilgrimage to Fatima

I took part in the pilgrimage to Fatima because I took five teenagers from my catechism group. They did the pilgrimage on foot with the other young people and the Sisters, and I supported them with Sister Fernanda. The pilgrimage was very well organised and all the pilgrims did what they were asked, and it was very easy to support them. Along the way we met other people on foot and by bicycle whom we also gave some support. It was very gratifying to be able to help those on pilgrimage, it’s a feeling of fulfilling the Commandment of Love that Jesus left us. And for me, my motto in life is ‘to pass through doing good in the image of the divine master, to make those around us happy, what a sweet life programme’. Luiza Andaluz

It was a new experience. The food was good. So was the company. I’d go back, but I’d be more careful with my feet. I liked the place we slept.

Maria Rosa

It was an experience! I really enjoyed it and I’d do it again, but it’s very tiring, but now I feel more enriched and stronger.

It was an experience I really enjoyed, and I want to do it again. It was also inspiring and made me increase my faith, and now I feel like ‘another person’.

In the year of the Jubilee, along the way we meditated on the mystery of the Incarnation and learnt to look at Jesus as an example of Love. In Fatima, we passed through the Holy Door of the Shrine together and gave our lives to Mary. As the invitation promised, the weekend was more than walking. It was stopping. It was laughing. It was praying. It was sharing. We could have stayed at home and studied, but when we reached the end, we realised that this was the adventure God had called us to for these days. We returned home with grateful hearts for the joy and sharing with the sisters and other young people.
